Staff Corporate Social Investment Projects
All of our attorneys provide free (pro bono) legal services on occasion to disadvantaged members of the public who cannot afford legal counsel.
GMI’s employment law department is involved in The South African Society for Labour Law’s pro bono project. Through this initiative, a member of our department attends the Labour Court in Johannesburg every two months to provide members of the public with legal assistance. We have also assisted the Magistrate’s Court in Pretoria administratively.
In addition to performing ongoing pro bono work, members of GMI’s team also serve as educators and board members. Derik de Beer and José da Silva serve on the Disciplinary Committee of the Law Society of South Africa, while Kobus Markgraaff and Aneesa Mahomed lecture at the School for Legal Practice of the Law Society.
GMI has partnered for some time with the National Business Initiative that fosters skills development and economic empowerment at a grassroots level.
