BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT STATUS
Strength in Diversity
At Gildenhuys Malatji Incorporated, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of transformation in South Africa’s legal sector. Our diversity ensures we are able to provide a warm and welcoming environment to our equally diverse clients.
GMI has moved from its humble beginnings of having a single black director in the late 1990s to being a majority black-owned law firm
Since its founding, we have reached many diversity milestones. Presently, 36% of our Directors, 64% of our lawyers and 69% of our complete staff are black. We are committed to gender as well as racial equality, and this shows in the fact that 26 of our 50 lawyers (52%) are industry-leading women.
Due to changes to our shareholding, we are currently 51% black-owned and 31.83% black female-owned.
From 2008 to 2010, GMI graduated from an ‘A’ Black Economic Empowerment rating to an ‘AAA' rating as a Level 2 Contributor. This further demonstrates our commitment not only to equal opportunity in the legal sector but our commitment to building on our existing diversity gains. We are proud to announce that in 2018 we achieved a further milestone by obtaining a rating of Level One (AAA+) Value Adding supplier as certified by Empowerdex, and have remained a Level One in 2019.
Our approach to diversity is effective due to our uncompromising commitment to providing quality legal services. To this end, we provide in-house training to prospective employees who demonstrate strong potential to acquire expertise.
When you choose GMI, you can thus rest assured that every lawyer in our fold has had the opportunity to grow and develop in a nurturing, pro-empowerment environment thereby ensuring that our service offering can be appreciated by a broad section of our client base.
