Kobus Markgraaff is a consultant in the Corporate and Commercial Department of GMI.
Kobus was the financial director of GMI and member of GMI’s Executive Committee from 1997 - 2021.
Before joining GMI in 1985 as a candidate attorney, Kobus worked at the South African Reserve Bank as Economic Analyst and at the Central Merchant Bank as Senior Investment Analyst. He was admitted as an attorney in 1986 and as a notary in 1991.
Kobus specialises in the restructuring of medium to large corporate groups as well as the structuring if a wide range of local and international transactions, which include mergers and acquisitions, as well as the preparation of the attendant transaction documents.
He has also advised clients from various industries, including engineering and construction, arms and armaments, information technology, property development and facilities management, agriculture and healthcare.
In addition to his active practice, Kobus has also lectured at the LEAD School for Practical Legal Training on Forms of Business Enterprises. He has also served for a number of years as a guest lecturer at the University of Pretoria’s Advanced Diploma in Trust Law and Estate Planning.
Past and present clients include listed and unlisted public companies, large corporate groups and high-net-worth individuals.
