Johan Smalberger is a director in GMI’s Public Law and Commercial Litigation Department. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pretoria in 2009, completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree with specialisation in law (BCom Law) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). He briefly worked in the banking industry before commencing articles at a firm specialising in evictions and debt recoveries, and continued his post graduate training by studying a Master of Laws degree with specialisation in commercial law, part-time, at the University of South Africa.

He was admitted as an attorney in 2012 and joined GMI as an associate in the commercial litigation department. Johan represents various entities, including listed companies, in litigation ranging from retail, commercial and residential evictions, as well contractual disputes, foreclosures and debt recovery.
