Ilana obtained a BA LLB through the University of Pretoria in 2009 and 2011 respectively. She served her articles of clerkship at a law firm in Pretoria in 2011, where she acquired experience in general litigation, personal injury law and medical negligence. She was admitted as an attorney in 2013 and practiced as such from 2013 until 2015. She thereafter joined the Litigation Department of another law firm in the heart of Randburg during 2015 up until 2021, whereafter she furthered her career as an Associate in the Insurance Law Department at a law firm in Centurion. In July 2022, Ilana joined the GMI team as a Senior Associate in the General Litigation Department.
